Matchup Deep Dive: VEN @ JPN

What a matchup to finish off the quarterfinal round.

The defending champion Team Japan has looked unstoppable this time around. Shohei Ohtani has to be tested to confirm if he is human while the Red Sox should be salivating after observing the majestic level of play Masataka Yoshida has displayed throughout the tournament. Their pitching has also been incredible as Yoshinobu Yamamoto will take the mound against Venezuela looking to replicate their 2023 WBC success.

However, it won’t come easy.

Team Venezuela has also proven to be one of the best national teams in this tournament. They steamrolled their competition in Pool D and gave the Dominican Republic a run for their money in their final Pool game. Ronald Acuña Jr., Maikel Garcia and Luis Arraez have been hotter than fish grease at the plate hitting for a combined .412 AVG and a 1.283 OPS. Opposite of Yamamoto, the “Vinotinto” will roll out their ace in Ranger Suarez hoping to keep the Venezuelans within range throughout the game.

This figures to be a fascinating matchup that reminds us why we love baseball.

Yamamoto has showed he has the resilience to deliver in these type of environments. Expect a low-scoring affair with clutch at bats from the Samurai.

Prediction: VEN 2 – JPN 4
