Forza Azurri 🤌
What a display it has been from Team Italy in this WBC. They topped their Pool shared with baseball powerhouses in Team USA and Team Mexico. Not only did they beat these two teams, they absolutely dominated them. Italy’s manager Francisco Cervelli has done a wonderful job with this national team and I don’t expect their run to end here.
Although the loss of Kyle Teel is demoralizing, their backup catcher J.J. Dorazio has been even better posting a .444 AVG and a 1.222 OPS in the few at-bats he has seen. Jac Caglianone and Vinnie Pasquantino are playing like superstars as the Royals must be savoring what the 2026 season has in store for them.
But let’s talk about the pitching. Everyone from their staff should take a bow and keep on drinking some wine. Sam Aldegheri looked otherworldly after striking out a sensational 8 batters in just 4.2 innings of work. It doesn’t stop there. Michael Lorenzen and Aaron Nola dismantled both USA and Mexico and were able to secure the top spot in the Pool.
The Puerto Ricans on the other hand have looked shaky. Although the Boricuas were able to get 3 wins, they weren’t convincing victories. The absence of Francisco Lindor and Carlos Correa have definitely been felt. Nolan Arenado has struggled to find any form of rhythm and I am afraid he might not be able to do so in time.
After seeing what the Italians were able to accomplish, it makes it impossible for me to pick against them.
Prediction: ITA 9 – PUR 5
